The unit has a central computer (7) and safety computers (9, 11), where functions required for controlling and monitoring the process sequence are implemented in the central computer. Functions for monitoring the central computer are implemented in the safety computers such that an emergency control of processes is enabled. The computers are interconnected using a switch (13) in such a manner that a switching of control from the central computer to the emergency control of one safety computer is initiated by the other safety computer. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a compressor test stand with a control unit (2) a method for controlling processes (3) a method for testing compressors.
