<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color converting method, a color converting apparatus and recording medium in which color reproduction can be performed with much more fidelity when compressing color correction data within a color reproduction area of a color output system regarding color image information exceeding the color reproduction area. <P>SOLUTION: According to the present invention, when a color reproduction area of an output system is narrower than a color reproduction area of an input system and color image information inside the color reproduction area of the input system and outside the color reproduction area of the output system is inputted, points corresponding to the color image information outside the color reproduction area of the color output system are linearly compressed to a boundary face of the color reproduction area of the color output system in an Lx axis direction correcting colors on an achromatic color axis of the relevant color output system.
