PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently achieve processing to fill up a hole caused inside an object region in an image processing system for acquiring a binary image by extracting an object region from an image. SOLUTION: In the image processing system, the image including the object image is corrected by the steps of: raster-scanning the image; detecting pixels contributing to an object region in the image and forming a boundary with a background region; detecting the pixels forming another boundary connected to the pixels by using the detected pixels forming the boundary as a start point and by specifying all pixels forming the boundary of the object region; specifying whether or not each of the specified pixels forming the boundary of the object region is the start end or terminal end of the object region in a scanning line; raster-scanning the image again; determining that the pixels of the start end and terminal end of the object region and the pixels between them are belonging to the object region; and rewriting the pixels in the image according to the determination result.
