PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-linear constant measurement method capable of simply and effectively measuring nonlinear constants. SOLUTION: The method executes a process for inputting pumping light which is outputted from a pump laser 2 and then is intensity-modulated and probe light outputted from a probe laser 4 to an optical fiber 20 to be measured; a process for measuring the spectral intensity of a beat signal of probe light which has been phase-modulated by mutual phase modulation caused by pumping light, and light being transmitted locally which is outputted from a laser 30 that is transmitted locally, and then the polarization state thereof is adjusted so as to equal to that of the probe light, from among signals passing through the optical fiber 20; and a process for finding out the phase change of the probe light by the maximum value of measured spectrum intensity and a peak value in a side band, in accordance with Formula 14 and determining the nonlinear constant, in accordance with Formula 3 based on the phase change found out.
