PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply reduce a non-luminescent region resulting from a joint part between a pair of substrates for sealing an organic EL element. SOLUTION: A first electrode 12, an organic EL layer 12 and a second electrode 14 are stacked and formed on a surface of a first substrate 11, and sealed by the first substrate 11 and a second substrate 15. A jointing plate 16a being a thin plate-like jointing member is stuck to a side surface of the first substrate 11 and a side surface of the second substrate 15 to joint the first substrate 11 to the second substrate 15. A UV-curable resin 17 is stuck to a region for forming electrode extraction terminals to the outside of the first electrode 12 and the second electrode 14. Thus, a region required for jointing the first substrate 11 to the second substrate 15 is reduced, and a non-luminescent region resulting from the joint part is reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
