PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring device for monitoring a person at a remote place, protecting privacy for the person, with a clear trigger to start/end monitoring. SOLUTION: The monitoring device 100 comprises an input/output portion 350 and remote control signal reception portion 354. A control portion 310 receives a signal instructing to turn on power supply from a remote controller of a television receiver 400 through a remote control signal reception portion 354. Upon receipt of the signal, the control portion 310 transmits image data and voice data to an address of a predetermined device stored in a memory 320 to start monitoring a person at a remote place.
