PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To image a color image by a solid-state imaging device with a structure having no color filter. SOLUTION: A color image pickup apparatus includes the solid-state imaging device, in which a plurality of first conductivity-type signal charge storage parts are arrayed and formed into an array shape on a surface part of a first conductivity-type semiconductor substrate via a second conductivity-type barrier layer, and also, light made incident through an optical layer having no color filter layer is received by the signal charge storage part, an imaging device driving means, which continuously images a plurality of images while changing a substrate voltage of the semiconductor substrate from V1 to V2 and from V2 to V3, and a signal processing means for generating a color image by subjecting image data of a plurality of the images output from the solid-state imaging device to calculation processing. A thickness of a depletion layer at the signal charge storage part is changed by changing the substrate voltage so as to change each contribution ratio of R light, G light, and B light to a signal charge amount. Consequently, it is possible to obtain an R signal, a G signal, and a B signal by executing the calculation processing. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
