The invention relates to a plant resistant to saline and hydric stress and to a method for obtaining same, based on strengthening the response to phytohormone ABA through the combined inactivation of type 2C phosphatase proteins: ABI1 and HAB1 or the orthologous proteins thereof. Said inactivation is performed through the loss of function (insertional mutagenesis/silencing) of the genes that encode said proteins, thereby generating a double mutant hab1-1abil-2 or hab1-1abil-3. The invention is suitable for plants of agronomic interest.
