A wireless communication system, a mobile station apparatus and a relay station apparatus wherein even if there occurs an influence of delay due to a relay operation, the upstream transmission timing can be adjusted to allow a base station apparatus to correctly demodulate the signals. In this system, a control subcarrier superimposing part (211,213) of a relay station apparatus (200) superimposes a control subcarrier of a predetermined frequency on a downstream signal received by a radio receiving part (201), and a radio transmitting part (215) generates, from the signal on which the control subcarrier has been superimposed, a relayed signal for transmission. A control subcarrier detecting part (307) of a mobile station apparatus (300) detects the control subcarrier from the relayed signal received by a radio receiving part (301), and when the control subcarrier is detected, a transmission timing changing part (313) advances the signal transmission timing by a predetermined time in accordance with the control subcarrier. A radio transmitting part (323) transmits the signal to the relay station apparatus (200) at the transmission timing.
