<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera enabling even a user unaccustomed to cameras to simply and comprehensively set a photographing control of the camera, and a camera control method. <P>SOLUTION: A setting operation by hierarchical guidance display is started (S51). A first layer of guidance display is displayed (S52). It is determined whether or not a selection in the first hierarchy of guidance display is decided (S53). A second layer of guidance display is displayed (S54). The second layer of guidance display is composed by developing a lower layer in the first layer of guidance display. It is determined whether or not a selection in the second layer of guidance display is decided (S55). A control condition corresponding to the guidance display is set on the basis of the decision in the first layer of guidance display and that of in the second layer of guidance display (S56).
