PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp drive device adopting a light modulation mode selection circuit, generating a stable input signal and a high-reliability output signal, having a simple circuit configuration. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp drive device is used for drive a group of lamps comprising a plurality of lamps, and is provided with a conversion circuit, a drive-switching circuit, a transforming circuit, a PWM controller, and a light modulation mode selection circuit. The conversion circuit is used for converting a received signal into a DC signal. The light modulation mode selection circuit is used for selecting a first input voltage or a second input voltage by an input signal, and has a switching circuit and a compensation circuit. The switching circuit is used for selecting the first input voltage or the second input voltage by the input signal. The compensation circuit is used so that the first input voltage or the second input voltage is compensated for the voltage loss in the light modulation mode selection circuit, and outputs the first input voltage or the second input voltage, after carrying out compensation.
