PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device and an illumination fixture wherein a load applied to the circuit can be alleviated, when one of the discharge lamps mutually connected in parallel is not lighted. SOLUTION: A balancing part is provided that is equipped with a balancer T, having two winding wires with one end is respectively connected to one of power output ends of a high-frequency power source circuit, and the other end is connected to the other power output end of the high-frequency power source circuit via mutually different discharge lamps La. In a state where both one ends are short-circuited which are to be directly connected to the output end of the high frequency power source circuit in each winding wire of the balancer T, the resonance frequency of the balancing part which is the resonance frequency of the balancer T is set to be 1.5 times or smaller than the output frequency of the high-frequency power source circuit at start of the discharge lamp. As compared with the case the resonance frequency is increased to 1.5 times or larger than the power output frequency of the high frequency power source circuit at the starting time of the discharge lamp, a voltage applied to between both ends of the other discharge lamp La is decreased, when one discharge lamp La only is lighted so that the load applied to the circuit can be reduced.
