PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reading apparatus for executing no duplicate reading from originals having been read before power interruption even when power is interrupted on the way of reading originals and re-reading is applied to all the originals at application of power thereafter. SOLUTION: When all the originals are set in the case of re-reading, the number count stored in a nonvolatile memory 50 is read. The number count indicates a number of originals whose reading is finished before the power interruption for the previous reading. In the case of the re-reading after application of power, a read section 20b reads no original images but idly passes the originals until the number of the originals reaches the number count. When the number of carried originals at the re-reading reaches the number count, the read section 20b starts reading the next original. In this case, since the number count is stored in the nonvolatile memory 50, the count is preserved even when the power is interrupted, and the read section 20b does not read in duplicate the images of the originals having already been read.
