PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing a fluorene derivative. SOLUTION: The method for producing a fluorene derivative comprises reacting a fluorenone represented by formula (1) (R<SB>1a</SB>and R<SB>1b</SB>are each a substituent group; k1 and k2 are each an integer of 0 or 1-4 and may be the same or different) with a polyhydric phenol represented by formula (2) (R<SB>2</SB>is a substituent group; m is an integer of 0 or 1-3; p is an integer of 2-5 and 2≤m+p≤5) in the presence of a heteropoly acid catalyst.
