PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine harmonizing speed enhancement with quality improvement. SOLUTION: This sewing machine is provided with a feed mechanism carrying a sewn workiece by a feed motor 45, a sewing needle 13 vertically moved by the rotation of a main shaft, an angle detecting means 66 detecting the rotation angle of the main shaft, a sewing pitch setting means 65 setting the sewing pitch, a speed setting means 65 setting the rotation speed of the main shaft, and a control means 60 driving the feed motor to form a seam synchronously with the vertical movement of the sewing needle and forming the seam on the sewn workpiece. This sewing machine is further provided with an intermittent feed control means intermittently driving the feed motor to become the intermittent feed, a continuous feed control means driving the feed motor to be a continuous feed, a limit rotation speed calculation means finding a limit rotation speed R based on a time required for carrying the work by the intermittent feed at a set pitch, and an automatic changeover control means changing over between the intermittent feed and the continuous feed based on a comparison between a set rotation speed B and the limit rotation speed by a determination means.
