PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display device for reducing troublesomeness when displaying to scroll a road map on a screen, and easily grasping a road out of a display region. SOLUTION: The map display device for displaying the road map comprises a map storing part for storing map data, a map generation part for generating the road map of a prescribed region from the map data stored by the map storing part, a specifying part for specifying a main road from the road map of the prescribed region generated by the map generation part, a scroll index generation part for generating a scroll index expressing a shape out of the prescribed region of the main road specified by the specifying part, and a display part for displaying to overlap the scroll index generated by the scroll index generation part on the road map of the prescribed region generated by the map generation part.
