PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool with an aluminum oxide coating film being directly deposited on the surface of its base material without deteriorating the base material or degrading the surface roughness. SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool has a base material and one or more coating films deposited on the base material. The coating film contains at least an aluminum oxide coating film, and the aluminum oxide coating film contains aluminum oxide, and is directly deposited on the base material.
