A method and a device for controlling a bus in a DMA controller are provided to efficiently use bus resources by enabling the DMA controller to support various bus occupation states. A control logic part(407) generates a control signal for permitting an external master to use the bus if DMA exclusively uses the bus. Each channel logic part(409,411) generates a signal for controlling occupation and non-occupation of the bus by receiving the control signal from the control logic part. An AHB(Advanced High-performance Bus) master(420) sets the occupation state of the bus based on the control signal received from the control logic part and the channel assigner. The AHB master comprises logic gates capable of determining the occupation state of the bus by receiving the control signals.
