1,214,886. Turret lathes. BLAW-KNOX CO. 26 Sept., 1968 [29 April, 1968], No. 45858/68. Headings B3F and B3T. In a lathe having a bed 2 with longitudinally extending guideways 3 along which a carriage 4 traverses, a cross slide 9 is mounted on the carriage and carries a tool post 10 supporting a tool turret 25 which is indexable about a horizontal axis and carries a plurality of cutting tools 26a, the turret being provided with a plurality of supporting regions 40 around its periphery which selectively co-operate with corresponding support regions 41 on the tool post. To effect an indexing movement of the turret which is secured to a cylindrical slide 27 the turret and slide are displaced along the horizontal axis by a fluid pressure piston and cylinder assembly 30, 31, 32 thereby disengaging the co-operating support surfaces 40, 41 on the turret and tool post respectively. The turret and slide are then indexed to the next required position by an hydraulically actuated rack and pinion unit 45, 46 on the tool post. The piston and cylinder assembly 30, 31, 32 is then actuated to return the turret and slide axially towards the tool post against which they are held and at the same time effecting engagement of the co-operating supports 40, 41. The tool post and cross slide are relatively adjustable with respect to the carriage 4 and with respect to each other and are clamped in their adjusted positions by way of a holding member 14 operated by draw bolts 15 by way of hydraulic means 15a. The carriage is provided with a railed platform for the machine operator. |
