1,170,997. Alloys. STANDARD PRESSED STEEL CO. July 14, 1967 [Aug. 18, 1966; July 14, 1966; April 10, 1967], No.32582/67. Heading C7A. An alloy consisting, in percent by weight, of is work-strengthened by reducing its crosssectional area by 5-60% while at a temperature below the upper temperature of its transformation zone (i.e. temperature zone between areas in which the f.c.c. and h.c.p. crystal forms respectively of the alloy are stable). Prior to workstrengthening, the alloy may be (a) worked at at least 925‹ F. and between its melting temperature and the upper temperature of its transformation zone until its cross-sectional area has been reduced by at least 5% or (b) homogenized at above 1950‹ F. Working may be accomplished by swaging, forging, extruding, rolling, tube reducing, coining, drawing, pressing, explosive treatment and impact loading. The alloy is useful in the production of wire, cable, fasteners, and metal dies and shears. |
