A display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to increase the endurance to the external pressure applied from the outside and to simultaneously enhance a process margin. A first and a second substrates(100,200) are located oppositely to each other. A shielding layer pattern(210) is formed on the second substrate. The first spacer(251) is formed on the shielding layer pattern and contacted with the first substrate. The second spacer(252) is formed by extending the shielding layer pattern and separated from the first substrate with a predetermined distance. A gate line and a data line(140) are crossed on the first substrate and define a pixel area. The shielding layer pattern is located at the position corresponding to the boundary of the pixel area. A common electrode is formed between the shielding layer pattern and the first spacer on the second insulating substrate. A pixel electrode is formed oppositely to the common electrode on the first substrate.
