<p>An apparatus and method for the measurement of torque experienced by a camshaft in the valve train of an internal combustion engine. The apparatus comprises a camshaft having at least one camshaft lobe group, characterised in that at least one camshaft lobe group has one or more torque transducers. The method comprises the steps of;
(a) providing the camshaft with one or more torque transducers, such that at least one camshaft lobe group has one or more torque transducers,
(b) operating the internal combustion engine to rotate the camshaft,
(c) transmitting the signals from the one or more torque transducers to a signal processor, and
(d) processing the signals in the signal processor to provide quantitative data representing the torque of the camshaft in the valve train.</p> |
