An image distortion prevention apparatus and method for preventing distortion of an image formed with light which is scanned by an optical scanner and has information regarding the image, the optical scanner operating in response to a mirror drive signal that determines a degree of deflection of the optical scanner are provided. The apparatus includes: a deflection sensing unit sensing the degree of deflection of the optical scanner when the optical scanner receives a horizon instruction signal or no signal; and a drive signal adjustment unit adjusting a predetermined candidate drive signal according to the sensing result and outputting the result of adjusting as the mirror drive signal, wherein the candidate drive signal instructs normal operation of the optical scanner, the horizon instruction signal instructs no deflection of the optical scanner, and the scanner operates normally in response to the result of adjusting.
