An electronic shift lever apparatus for a vehicle and a control method of the same are provided to reduce operational force of a shift lever by moving the shift lever to an N shift stage with a button. A shift mode setting unit(10) includes an automatic shift mode button(12) or a manual shift mode button(14) which are installed at a predetermined position in order to set a shift mode of a vehicle in an automatic shift mode or a manual shift mode. A shift lever(20) includes an 'N' shift stage button which is formed at one side thereof. A first shift stage shifts the automatic shift mode of the shift mode setting unit to an 'R' shift stage when the shift lever is moved from the automatic shift mode to an upper direction, and shifts the manual shift mode of the shift mode setting unit to an 'Shift-Up' shift stage when the shift lever is moved from the automatic shift mode to the top direction. A second shift stage shifts the automatic shift mode of the shift mode setting unit to a 'D' shift stage when the shift lever is moved from the automatic shift mode to a lower direction, and shifts the manual shift mode of the shift mode setting unit to a 'Shift-Down' shift stage when the shift lever is moved from the automatic shift mode to the lower direction.
