An image processing method and an image processor are provided to extract a connection segment from gray data of an image by using morphology processing although contrast difference exists in the image. An image pickup device(2) picks up a tested object(5). A segment extracting device(1) performs morphology processing for scanning an operator in a plurality of directions with respect to an image according to a pickup image picked up by the image pickup device(2) and extracting a linear element from an extracted image of each direction. The segment extracting device(1) extracts a region with a relatively high contrast ratio and a region with a relatively low contrast ratio from the image in which the morphology processing is performed, and extracts a linear element of the region with the relatively low contrast ratio connected to the region with the relatively high contrast ratio as a segment element.
