A method of obtaining Angelica gigas extract increased in the content of decursinol as compared to decursin is provided to increase the content of decursinol by more than 200 times as compared to the conventional extraction method using spirits. Angelica gigas is mixed with 3 to 8 times the weight of 80 to 100%(v/v) ethanol, added with 0.001 to 0.1%(w/v) alkalinizing agents to adjust the pH to 9 to 14 and extracted at 40 to 75deg.C for 1 to 8hr. To increase the content of decursinol, Angelica gigas extract is obtained without the addition of the alkalinizing agents; the filtrate is then added with sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide to adjust the pH to 9 to 14 and extracted at 40 to 75deg.C for 1 to 8hr. The alkalinizing agents are any one selected from sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, calcium oxide, magnesium hydroxide and barium hydroxide. The Angelica gigas extract contains decursin and decursinol in a weight ratio of 20 to 400:1.
