A method and an apparatus for compensating defective nozzle of an ink jet image forming device is provided to prevent deterioration of printing image quality such as white band on a printed image easily recognized by users by moving a printer head left and right, and dispersing a printing position by a defective nozzle. A method and an apparatus for compensating defective nozzle of an ink jet image forming device comprises the steps of moving a printer head to a scanning direction(900), shifting image data respectively corresponding to nozzles of the printer head in an opposite direction of a movement direction of the printer head by the number of nozzles corresponding to distance moved by the printer head(920); and driving the nozzles according to the shifted image data and printing an image.
