A broadcasting receiving apparatus and a control method therefor are provided to inform a user of information about a usable storing space by previously assigning a storing space of a previously reserved program and displaying information about residual capacity. A user selection unit(60) receives a recording command of a broadcasting program. A UI(User Interface) generating unit(21) generates information about the residual capacity of a data storing unit(40). When the recording command is received through the UI unit(21), a control unit(70) assigns a storing space for a previously reserved program to the data storing unit(40) on the basis of reservation information stored in a reservation information storing unit(50), calculates the residual capacity of the data storing unit(40), and controls the UI generating unit(21) and a display unit(30) to generate and display the information about the residual capacity.
