A method for transmitting an MIH(Media Independent Handover) message in executing handover between heterogeneous networks is provided to prevent a mobile terminal from transmitting an unnecessary message on demand and reduce a waste of radio resources and battery power consumption of the mobile terminal by enabling an MIHF(MIH Function) entity, which exists within the same DS(Distribution System) as the present AP(Access Point), to broadcast an MIH performance response. If a beacon containing an MIHF entity information IE is transmitted to a mobile terminal from an AP(1), the MAC layer of the mobile terminal delivers an MLME-Scan.confirm message to the MIH layer of the mobile terminal, including the MIHF entity information IE(2). The MIH layer transmits an MLME-MIHCapaDiscovery.request primitive to the MAC layer and starts an MIH performance search procedure(3). Receiving the MLME-MIHCapaDiscovery.request primitive, the MAC layer transmits an MIH performance search request action frame to the AP. The AP changes destination address field of the received frame into an MIHF entity address and delivers the frame to an MIHF entity(4). The MAC layer of the MIHF entity transmits an MLME-MIHCapaDiscovery.request primitive to the MIH layer of the MIHF entity, including the information contained in the received MIH performance search request action frame(5). The MIH layer of the MIHF entity transmits an MLME-MIHCapaDiscovery.response primitive to the MAC layer, including a list of events and commands which the MIHF entity can support(6). The MAC layer transmits an MIH performance search response action frame containing an MIH performance search request IF containing the event and command list to the AP. |
