A portable computer and a control method thereof are provided to output a video signal and receive the video signal from an external input source through one output port without adding an input port. A video adaptor(40) outputs the first video signal to the outside or receives the second video signal from the external input source. A controller(50) selectively supplied the second video signal to a display part(30) if the external input source is connected to the video adaptor. The controller includes a switch(51) for switching a data path between a video processor(20) and the video adaptor, a switching controller(55), and a selective output part(53). If the external input source is connected to the video adaptor, the switching controller cuts off the data path. If an external output device is connected to the video adaptor, the switching controller connects the data path. The selection output part selectively outputs the first video signal from the video processor or the second video signal received through the video adaptor to the display part.
