Provided are a coumarin-based compound, a material for a light emitting device containing the compound, an organic electroluminescent device containing the compound which is improved in luminous efficiency, lifetime and drive voltage, and a display device or a lightening device using the electroluminescent device. The coumarin-based compound is represented by Phi(Z)m, wherein Phi is a substituted or unsubstituted m-valent aromatic or heteroaromatic group having at least one 5-membered or 6-membered ring; Z are identical or different one another and are a coumarin residue represented by a formula 2; m is a number of 2 or more; R^1 to R^4 are independently H, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkynyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkylthio group, a substituted or unsubstituted arylalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted arylalkoxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted arylalkylthio group, a substituted or unsubstituted arylalkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted arylalkynyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted arylsulfonyloxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkylsulfonyloxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkyl group, a halogen atom, a cyano group, a nitro group, or a hydroxyl group; Ar are independently a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl group; and R^1 and R^2, R^2 and R^3, R^1 and R^2 and R^3 or Ar can be fused to form a ring. |
