The central console (42) with a stowage compartment (46) and arm rest (50) incorporates at least one inner ventilation duct (64) to carry air to rear seat passengers. The air ducts are formed by folding or flexible panels (54) on the inside of the console housing (48), each folding panel being made from a number of hinged rigid sections (56) and having an edge (62) shaped to engage with a coupling element (60) on the housing wall inner surface. Variants of the design can have a ventilation duct liner or more than one fixed duct wall moulded on the inner surface of the console housing.
