A tape spool 10, Fig. 1, is centred vertically by a rod 8 on a rotatable platform 4 on base 2. The tape may be adhesive on the inside at 120 or the outside at 122 and is accordingly, drawn off around vertical guide rollers 12, 40 and has the direction of its plane turned through 90 degrees by tilted guide member 112 and a lower horizontal guide member 115. Roll 40, Fig. 4, is carried by a bar 36 sliding on bearings 34 in a guide 18 and carries a cam 46 acting on sliding rod 54 abutting spring loaded cranks 70, 72 carrying brakes 94 acting on rotatable platform 4, the brake pressure being backed by members 96, Figs. 1 and 4. As the tape is pulled off, e.g. via a dispensing mechanism to which the base is attached or with which it is integral, the force on roller 40 releases the brake and allows the platform and tape spool to rotate and prevent over-running of the spool when the pull ceases.</p> |
