1276838 Pipe couplings UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 10 July 1969 [18 July 1968] 34421/68 Heading F2G [Also in Divisions F1, F4 and G6] A pressure relief device 1 comprises a membrane 17 which is supported by a pivotal member held in the supporting position by a pin which is designed to fail, together with the membrane 17, at a predetermined pressure on the membrane, the pivotal member pivoting to a position in which it no longer supports the membrane 17, the device having a second membrane 41 which prevents flow of fluid should the membrane 17 open prematurely. The pivotal support member for the membrane 17 which is of nickel sheet, comprises a backing plate 29 welded to two spaced diametrical members 30. The membrane 17 is held by sealing rings 18 between flanges 19 and 20 which are held together by rings 23, 24 secured by bolts 25. An annular soft metal back-up ring 26 is also provided. Welded to the members 30 is a shear pin block 32 having two blind holes 33 that accommodate one shear pin (39), Fig. 3 (not shown), the other hole being used for change-over purposes. |
