PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multicore plastic optical fiber (POF) cable which is excellent in toughness and flame-retardant property and is reduced in vexatious complication upon laying. SOLUTION: The POF cable 10 is manufactured as follow; two single POF cords 14 in each of which a cover layer 15a is disposed on the outer circumference of a plastic optical fiber (POF) 12 and a tension wire 17 are arranged on prescribed positions and, thereafter, an outer shell covering layer forming material 42 containing a flame-retardant substance is applied on the outer circumference of the two single POF cords and the tension wire to form an outer shell covering layer 43. The tension wire 17 has a tensile elastic modulus of 10 GPa to 150 GPa and is made of a thermoplastic resin of polyester or polyethylene of which the elongation at breakage is at least 3.0%. The tension wire 17 is easily melted out even when heat or flame is propagated. The tension wire 17 does not operate as a propagation medium of flame in spite of a high tensile strength and, therefore, the POF cable 10 of a multicore fiber structure becomes a light transmitter which is excellent in toughness and flame-retardant property and can reduce complicatedness upon laying.
