<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system and method for making it unnecessary for a user to individually manage user identification information and authentication information necessary for using an individual site. <P>SOLUTION: Terminal identification information is transmitted from a user terminal to a site terminal (S301), and image information is generated by the site terminal based on the site identification and terminal identification information, and transmitted to the user terminal (S302, S303). The image information is displayed by the user terminal (S305), and the image information is imaged by a portable terminal (S306), and the site identification information and the terminal identification information are generated, and ID and PW preliminarily stored in the portable terminal are read from a PW portable terminal (S307), and ID, PW and terminal identification information are transmitted to the site terminal specified by the site identification information (S308).
