<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to confirm whether face detection processing is set. <P>SOLUTION: A face detection button 73 for setting the face detection processing ON/OFF is provided on the back of a digital still camera. When the face detection button 73 is pressed to set up so that the face detection processing is performed, a face detection processing execution mark 62 is displayed at a right upper part on a display screen 61. The user then knows that the image detection processing is carried out, by viewing the face detection processing execution mark 62. Once an image is detected in a subject image S1, a detection frame 63 is displayed enclosing a face. When the face detection processing is unnecessary, the face detection button 73 is pressed again. A face detection processing non-execution mark is displayed on the display screen 61.
