<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carbon or graphite powder having high electrode filling property of a material, high energy density and excellent rapid charge discharge property and applied for an electrode of a non-aqueous secondary battery or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The carbon or graphite particle subjected to dynamic energy treatment so that the ratio of density before and after the treatment is ≥1.1 and the ratio of median diameter before and after the treatment is ≤1, is provided, wherein before the treatment, the interlayer distance (d002) is ≤0.34 nm, the crystallite size is ≥30 nm and the true density is ≥2.25 g/cm<SP>3</SP>, and after the treatment, the median diameter of the particle 5-50 μm, the BET specific surface area is ≤25 m2/g and the apparent density is ≥0.5 g/cm3 and the like.
