PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment dispersion, which can sufficiently achieve an effect of dispersion stabilization of ultrafine pigment particles by using an aqueous suspension of a pigment derivative, and which has pigment particles being dispersed in a stable and low viscous state, and also a method for producing the pigment dispersion. SOLUTION: The pigment dispersion comprises an organic pigment, a pigment derivative, a water-insoluble resin, and a water-insoluble solvent. The pigment dispersion can be obtained by mixing an aqueous suspension containing the organic pigment, an aqueous suspension of the pigment derivative, and a resin solution in which the water-insoluble resin is dissolved in the water-insoluble solvent, and then flushing the resultant mixture.
