A conveyor belt system (1, 2) comprises an endless conveyor belt (10, 11) made from a flexible film-like material, at least two reversing rollers (12, 13; 14, 15) between which an upper belt section (3, 7) and a lower belt section (4, 6) are fixed, one of which belt sections (3, 6) being completely taut and the other (4, 7) having at least one part of the belt section (48, 49) that is untensioned, guide means (20, 21) for guiding the conveyor belt (10, 11) in transverse direction, and drive means (16, 17) for driving the conveyor belt (10, 11) in transport direction. The untensioned part of the belt section (48, 49) is supported over at least one part of its length in such a way that a compact embodiment can be achieved.
