<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink having high image density, slight strike through and curls, excellent dispersion stability and good decapping resistance over a long period in recording on plain paper and to provide a method for ink-jet recording for ink jets. <P>SOLUTION: The ink for the ink jets comprises a mixed solvent exhibiting the maximum part of viscosity by the mixing ratio when mixing an organic solvent having 0.01-133 Pa vapor pressure at 25°C with water. The content of the organic solvent in the mixed solvent is higher than mass% of the organic solvent exhibiting the maximum part of the viscosity and ≥50 to ≤95 mass%. Furthermore, the viscosity of the ink for the ink jets at 25°C at 1 s<SP>-1</SP>shear rate is higher than that at 1,000 s<SP>-1</SP>shear rate by 0.5-3 mPa s.
