<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily provide a sampling light pulse having a center frequency matching with signal light, and observe a repeated signal light that has high wavelength selectivity, low power, and high speed. <P>SOLUTION: When repetitively input signal light is observed, an optical pulse, with an optical pulse width shorter than the inverse of frequency variation of signal light, is generated at a period slightly different from the repetitive period of the signal light (11); the optical pulse and signal light are input into an optical hybrid (5-1); a plurality of output lights from the optical hybrid are received by a balance type light receivers (6-1 and 6-2); the output signals of balanced type light receiver are multiplied by themselves and then added to each other (9); and the interference signal is detected at a pulse generation period. The optical pulse is converted into a super continium light, having a broad band spectrum (2), and a sampling light pulse of a desired center frequency and spectral width from the super continium light is selected with a variable wavelength optical filter (3), and generating it. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
