<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which a high transmittance can be achieved by a simple electrode structure in an in-plane switching liquid crystal display device, and a terminal device using the same. <P>SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal display device 1, a liquid crystal layer is provided between a principal substrate 2a and a counter substrate 2b that are disposed so as to face each other, and a common electrode 3b and a pixel electrode 3a, which is a parallel electrode pair formed in the comb shape, are formed on the surface of the principal substrate 2a that faces the counter substrate 2b. Alignment films 4 are also formed on the counter surfaces of the principal substrate 2a and the counter substrate 2b. The electrodes of the parallel electrode pair are formed so that the width thereof is smaller than the thickness of the liquid crystal layer. The alignment of the liquid crystal molecules between the electrodes is thereby changed by an electric field generated by the parallel electrode pair, and the alignment of liquid crystal molecules disposed above the electrodes is changed in the same direction as in the liquid crystal molecules between the electrodes in accordance with the change in alignment of the liquid crystal molecules between the electrodes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
