<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination apparatus which is two-light type one suitably used for a high-luminance projector, restrains in-plane light intensity distribution in an area to be illuminated from getting uneven even when emitted light from a light emitting tube gets weak or is stopped in any of a plurality of light source devices and also restrains the quality of a projected image from being deteriorated. <P>SOLUTION: The illumination apparatus 100 is provided with a polarized light beam combiner 90, a first polarized light source device 40 and a second polarized light source device 80. The first polarized light source device 40 and the second polarized light source device 80 comprise light source devices 10, 50, polarization separation optical elements 20, 60 and λ/2 plates 30, 70, and the polarized light beam combiner 90 is constituted so as to synthesize illumination light flux related to a P polarized light component emitted from the first polarized light source device 40 and illumination light flux related to a S polarized light component emitted from the second polarized light source device 80 and emit synthesized illumination light fluxes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
