[Also in Division F2] A conveyer screw 32, for removing sludge from a surrounding rotor chamber 23 (shown only at their ends) in which oil is centrifuged, is driven at a variable speed, which differs by only a small amount from that of the centrifuge rotor 23, by harmonic gearing wherein an internally toothed ring gear 10 is driven with and at the same speed as the centrifuge rotor 23 by one input belt 22, whilst a strain-wave in a meshing toothed flexspline 11, fast with the conveyer screw 32, is propagated by a cammed strain-inducing element 12, driven by a second input belt 48 at variable speeds forward or reverse. Thus with 242 and 240 teeth respectively on the ring-gear 10 and flexspline 11; a twolobe strain-inducing element 12; and the centrifuge rotor 23 driven at 5600 r.p.m., the conveyor-screw speed is 5646; 5630, or 5651 r.p.m., according as to whether respectively the second input 48 is held stationary; rotated in the same direction as 23 at 1920 r.p.m., or reversely at 600 r.p.m. Lubrication is effected by oil floating from a reservoir 24 in the driving member 20 into a paring chamber 25 wherein two scoop tubes 51, rotating with the secondary drive 47 feed oil through holes 53, 54 respectively to the strain-inducing bearing 42 and bearing 43, surplus oil returning to the reservoir through a hole 26 in the paring-chamber wall and flexopline holes 11c. |
