An improved buckle for supporting the shoulder belt in a safety belt system has the belt looped over a support bar (12) fitted with low friction guide elements (20) with a low friction coating. The guide elements are deformed under large tensions in the belt to provide a secure support especially in a collision. Plastic or metal can be used for the guide elements while the low friction plastic coating also deforms under pressure.
