PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a target material detection element capable of improving detection sensitivity, compared with a conventional plasmon resonance sensor.

SOLUTION: The substrate for the target material detection element used for a detection device for detecting a target material by utilizing plasmon resonance has a support, and a metal structure provided locally on the surface of the support, and the metal structure has at least one of a loop part and a branch part.
