A system for applying protective lacquer onto items, e.g. electronic circuit boards, has a self contained module containing the process stages; cleaning (54), lacquer spraying (50) and drying/baking (30). The items are fed into the module by a conveyor belt (20) and loaded into process magazines. A robotic system moves the loaded magazines through the process stages. The module replaces conventional coating system using large conveyor belts.
