EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL DEVICE AND EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL METHOD FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device and an exhaust emission control method for an internal combustion engine capable of promptly increasing the temperature of a NOx catalyst and activating it when an exhaust gas temperature is low.

SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device for the internal combustion engine is provided with the NOx catalyst arranged on an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine to selectively reduce NOx in exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine and a reducing agent injecting device for injecting a reducing agent in the exhaust passage at the upstream side of the NOx catalyst. An oxidation catalyst is provided at the upstream side of the NOx catalyst, and a heating means for raising the temperature of the NOx catalyst is provided at the upstream side of the oxidation catalyst.
