PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus and method for communicating with other communication apparatus through a plurality of transmission lines while suppressing power consumption low. SOLUTION: The communication apparatus 100 includes a power-line communication section which performs priority transmission using a power line L and a radio communication section which performs radio transmission as a plurality of communication sections capable of communicating with other communication apparatus through mutually different transmission lines. Further, the communication apparatus 100 makes at least one of the power-line communication section and radio communication section communicate and halts the power-line communication section or radio communication section which does not perform communication, when at least one of the power-line communication section or radio communication section does not perform communication.
